Cranford Police Announce DWI Checkpoint Tonight

Staff Report / cranfordlocal.org

The Cranford Police Department has announced a DWI checkpoint scheduled for tonight. In a social media post, the department shared a past DWI motor vehicle crash as part of a #flashbackfriday initiative. They emphasized that the purpose of advertising the checkpoint is to deter impaired drivers from getting behind the wheel, rather than simply to arrest them.

The police encouraged drivers to consider alternatives, such as having a designated driver or using a ride-hailing service. The checkpoints will be conducted in accordance with State v. Kirk guidelines and have received prior approval from the Union County Prosecutor's Office. The department reiterated the message: "Drive sober or get pulled over."
