Lincoln School Celebrates Restart a Heart Day

Staff Report / garwoodLocal.org

Lincoln School recently observed “Restart a Heart Day” as part of October’s Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month. The event was organized by The Aliver Foundation in collaboration with Principal Emmons and Superintendent Kinney to promote awareness and education about cardiac emergencies.

Restart a Heart Day, celebrated annually on October 16th since 2013, aims to increase survival rates of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. The Aliver Foundation was excited to engage students throughout the school with various activities.

Jill A. Pall, Founder and President of The Aliver Foundation, joined Detective Christopher Czachorowski and Police Officer Eric Miller to speak with younger students about essential health practices such as hydration, sleep, physical activity, and nutrition. They stressed the importance of calling 9-1-1 in emergencies. A playful inquiry about a Lamborghini for the Garwood Police Department also sparked conversation.

During an assembly for fourth and fifth graders, Pall shared her personal experience with cardiac arrest. Alongside Stephanie Lovero Willix, Assistant Secretary and Life Member of the Garwood First Aid Squad, she addressed questions from students regarding sudden cardiac arrest and the appropriate emergency responses.

This initiative focused on educating young people in Garwood about heart health and emergency procedures, aiming to save lives within the community.
